Dealing With Gym Intimidation
Have you ever experienced gym intimidation?
Feeling intimidated or awkward at the gym is more common than you think. Especially if you don’t know anyone and are new to training.
When you experience gym intimidation, little things like setting up a squat rack or using a machine can feel overwhelming.
You think that everyone’s eyes are on you or that you’re doing it wrong. It’s not a great feeling.
Here are our tips on how to overcome gym intimidation:
Start with group classes
If you’re feeling anxious about training on your own, group classes are a great way to start!
They’re a great way to make friends. Plus, you’re instructed on what exercises to do.
Ask for help
Whether it’s from another gym-goer, gym staff, or a personal trainer, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
Focus on your own goals
Remember that people probably aren’t paying attention to you. Everyone in the gym is focused on their own workout.
Think about why you even signed up to the gym in the first place. Remember your goals and why you want to achieve them.
Plan ahead
Know what you’re going to do when you get there. You won’t feel lost when you come in.
Also, you will hold yourself accountable to finish your workout.
Don’t compare yourself to anyone
The girl lifting a lot of weight or that muscly guy were all beginners once.
Be confident!
Don’t give in to those feelings of insecurity. Keep showing up and it will get easier over time.
Overall, just keep showing up. Get yourself into a routine, stay consistent, and you’ll find that each gym session gets easier and less daunting. Remember: everyone was a beginner once!
