Time Management And Work

How often do you think, “Working out seems great, but I just don’t have the time for it.” You would then list reasons why you don’t have enough time: work, family commitments, social life, etc.

Care to learn a secret? The above is one of people’s biggest excuses for not pursuing fitness. It is also the least valid simply because we make time for what truly matters to us.

So, if you’re ready to make training a serious part of your life, read on. We’ll be sharing time-management tactics and ways to stay consistent with fitness, despite your busy professional life.

  1. Put Together a Plan

People struggle to train consistently and fail to prioritize the gym simply because they don’t know what to do. As a result, they can’t understand what they are missing out on.

Having a workout plan is beneficial for numerous reasons, and one such is that missing workouts becomes more painful. Each time you prioritize going out with friends or watching TV after work, you can’t help but think of what you’re missing in the gym. The guilt is often a good motivator to train consistently and reach your goals.

Instead of thinking, “Eh, I can skip training today. What am I missing, anyway?” you might think, “Missing the gym today would mean I won’t get to do the bench and overhead press, which could impact my chest and shoulder development.”

  1. Set Goals

Setting goals isn’t the same as achieving them but knowing what you want is essential. For one, goals provide a direction to your efforts and make it easier to create a plan. How else would you know what to focus on if you don’t have any goals?

Second, goals can motivate you to return to the gym, even when you don’t feel like it. Goals can remind you of what you’re trying to achieve and why each workout matters.

  1. Leverage Momentum

A great way to manage your time and become more consistent with the gym is to leverage the momentum you generate throughout the day.

Instead of returning home after work, prepare your gym bag and go from your workplace to the gym right away. Doing so saves you time, makes you more consistent, and reduces the risk of relaxing at home and coming up with excuses to skip workouts.

  1. Change Up Your Training Intensity

The beauty of fitness is that it can assume many shapes and sizes to fit the individual’s needs, goals, and desires. People who don’t have much time to exercise shouldn’t give up because even shorter sessions can work, and it all has to do with training density––the amount of work you do per unit of time.

In the context of training, density measures how hard you push yourself and what percentage of the time you spend working out.

One option is to shorten your rest periods and increase the intensity. Doing so would allow you to do more work in less time and get fit on a tight schedule. For instance, you can leverage circuit training, use supersets, or perform drop sets.
